Véra Atchou vit et travaille à Paris.

Au sortir de l’adolescence, elle devient mannequin et défile pour CHANEL, Sonia Rykiel, Christian Lacroix…

Quelques années plus tard, c’est Karl Lagerfeld, enthousiasmé par ses premières images, qui encourage Véra à devenir photographe.

 

Elle entame alors sa carrière dans les backstages des shows Chanel et Chloé.
Dans l’effervescence des défilés de mode, s’affirme déjà son style photographique : une observation minutieuse et une vision toute en finesse, au plus près des matières luxueuses, d’un sourire complice, d’un tissu précieux, d’un geste de la main, du détail d’une veste brodée…

Ses portraits et ses photos beauté, toujours en quête d’émotion et d’un certaine sensualité à fleur de peau, témoignent de l’attention bienveillante qu’elle porte aux personnalités, artistes et aux mannequins qui, alors en confiance, offrent en toute simplicité leur image à son objectif.

En 2000 paraît son premier ouvrage, largement salué par la presse : « Métis & Mélanges ».
Une série de portraits et d’interviews de personnalités et d’anonymes nés de rencontres métissées et surtout une belle aventure humaine et artistique qui dépasse les contours d’un simple livre.

Entre un détail délicat et la majesté d’un lieu, le net et le flou, la clarté et l’obscurité, Véra Atchou compose à l’infini à travers ses images un univers élégant et poétique où la vue parfois se trouble.
Un monde où ce qui paraît n’est pas toujours ce qui est. Un thème récurrent qui sert de fil conducteur lorsqu’elle expose ses œuvres.

Véra Atchou lives and works in Paris.    

In her late teens, she became a model and worked consistently for CHANEL, Sonia Rykiel and Christian Lacroix among others.

A few years later, an enthusiastic Karl Lagerfeld encouraged her to become a professional photographer.

She then started her career shooting backstage at the Chanel and Chloé shows.
Amidst the turmoil of fashion shows, her photographic style started taking shape: a meticulous observation and a subtle vision, expressed mainly through close-ups of luxurious textures, knowing smiles, ornate fabrics, the movement of a hand gesture or details on an embroidered jacket.

Her portraits and beauty images – always focused on emotion and a delicate kind of sensuality – show a kind and watchful look over the personalities, artists and models that, in an intimate setting, offer themselves to the camera lens in perfect simplicity.

In 2000, she published her first book, the largely praised “Métis & Mélanges”.
It consisted on a series of portraits and interviews of celebrities and anonymous persons born from mixed-race couples and it was a beautiful human and artistic adventure that went beyond the book itself.

Between delicate details and grand settings, clear and blurred outlines, brightness and darkness, Véra Atchou creates infinite compositions and images set in an elegant, poetic and sometimes intriguing universe.
A world in which things are not always what they seem. A recurring idea that works as a common thread whenever she exhibits her photographs.
